UAB picks up Georgia RB

The UAB Blazers have landed one of the top all-purpose backs in the Southeast as Lincolnton (Ga.) Lincoln County speedster Darell Norman pledged to the Blazers during a weekend visit to Birmingham.
"I committed to UAB," Norman said. "They got coach Neil Callaway to coach for them from Georgia and he's a nice guy. I like the whole coaching staff.

"I committed the day I was going to leave on Sunday."
Callaway is the former offensive line coach at UGA.
Norman talked about the things he enjoyed about his official visit.
"I met with the coaches and the host and me went out and had fun," he said. "The coaches were real and up front with me about stuff."
He will help the Blazers' offense in a number of ways.
"I will play running back and slot," he said.
The 5-foot-9, 183-pound Norman also held scholarship offers from Middle Tennessee State, Ball State and Southern Mississippi. He got heavy interest from South Carolina and some interest from Georgia.
Norman currently is rated as the nation's No. 14 all-purpose running back prospect.
