UAB picks up 2-star RB

Michael Fredrick, a class of 2015 two-star running back out of Hialeah (Fla.) Champagnat Catholic, committed to UAB on Thursday.
The 5-foot-10, 164-pound Fredrick cited his relationship with offensive coordinator Bryant Vincent and playing opportunities as reasons for pulling the trigger on the Blazers.

"First it was the coaches," Fredrick said. "The second reason was the depth chart. There's not too many people on scholarship at my position so if I go there and do what I'm supposed to do I can play as a freshman."
UAB beat out other offers including Cincinnati, Bowling Green and Temple.
"I was a big fan of Cincinnati growing up and I used to watch their games as a fan," Fredrick said. "But it wasn't really that hard of a choice because at the end of the day I knew what was better for me."
Fredrick has yet to visit UAB but plans to take an official visit during the season. He said he's looking forward to becoming a Blazer.
"I'm looking forward to learning new things and getting better," he said.
Fredrick rushed for 1,022 yards and 12 touchdowns on 112 carries last year for Class AA state champions Champagnat Catholic.
