UAB lands RB Coles

When UAB called two weeks ago to offer Tucker, Ga., running back Bashr Coles, he didn't immediately commit because he first wanted to get an up-close look at both the program and the school.
Coles did that this weekend, and was more than a little impressed.

And before leaving UAB for home Sunday, he visited with Blazers coach Neil Callaway.
"There was a meeting at the end of the recruiting trip," Coles said. "I guess it was planned. Coach asked me about my visit and if I had all my questions answered. Then he asked if I could see myself playing here and what I thought about UAB. And I told him I'd like to commit."
What stood out during Coles' visit to Birmingham?
"Man, the atmosphere there was amazing," Coles said. "I got along well with the players. I felt like this school has a lot of things academically. It has a lot of tools at my disposal so I can be successful. I also feel like the program is up and coming and I want to be part of it."
The 6-foot, 175-pound Coles chose the Blazers over Georgia Southern. He had several other offers, most notably from Eastern Michigan.
"This is real exciting that I have a place that wants me - a place where I can also contribute," Coles said. "That's building a whole new motivation for me to get bigger and stronger to help them. Because I know they're going to do their best to help me."
