UA invite was worth wait for Williams

For some time, four-star linebacker Darrell Williams of Hoover

(Alabama) wasn't sure if he'd be able to realize his dream of playing in the
Under Armour All America Game. He had been expecting an invitation earlier in
the year, but just kept waiting. And waiting.
Then, a few weeks ago, he got the news he'd been waiting for -- he would be
invited to participate in the all-star game. Friday, he officially accepted his
invitation during a game jersey presentation at his school.
"I had been expecting an invite and when it didn't come as early as I thought it
would I started to lose hope," the 6-foot-2, 225-pound Williams said. "Then I
got the news and I was shocked and overwhelmed. I felt blessed and I was happy
to give the glory over to God.
"It was definitely worth the wait."
Williams said he's looking forward to one last football game as a high school
athlete.
"I feel like it will be a great experience before heading on to the next chapter
as a college football player," he said. "It will be a great challenge with all
the talent there and I'll get to compare myself to my peers and know that the
man in front of me is just as good -- if not better -- than I am. It's going to
be a great experience going against those caliber of players and learning how
college is going to be when I first go in."
Williams' future is bright when looking at the next level. He's committed to
Auburn, but acknowledges his recruiting process is still very much
alive. He plans on taking official visits to Alabama, Oklahoma
and Ole Miss in addition to Auburn.
"I'm still faithful to Auburn and my commitment," Williams said. "But at the
same time, this is my life. Not many people get this opportunity. These schools
are out there wanting to hand me a scholarship and want me to come to their
school.
"I see people struggling to pay for college, and they're just handing me a
scholarship, so I wouldn't want to turn anyone down. If they have interest, I'll
show them respect and keep an open mind. At the same time, I'm still faithful to
Auburn, but I think if these schools offer me a scholarship I'll show them
consideration and attention and listen to what they have to say."
Williams didn't say when he planned on making his decision final.
