UA All-America Game: Schwartz commits to Auburn

ORLANDO – Anthony Schwartz chose Auburn on Thursday during the Under Armour All-America Game, and the two-sport star will bring a mountain of speed with him to campus. Schwartz will run track in addition to playing football. Schwartz chose the Tigers over in-state Florida and a host of other schools. Below, we take a look at the ripple effect of four-star prospect’s nationally televised announcement.

THE SITUATION:

One of the fastest prospects in the country, Schwartz’s decision was based on track in addition to football. His choice of Auburn comes prior to his official visits, which he says he’ll take in the coming months.

According to Schwartz, it won’t just be the Tigers that get a visit. On Saturday, he says he intends to tour Auburn, Florida and possibly Georgia this month despite having a commitment in place.

HOW IT HELPS AUBURN:

Auburn is getting one of the fastest prospects in the country and that’s never a bad thing. Sure, Schwartz needs to work to become more polished as a football player but the athleticism at work cannot be disputed. The four-star athlete played both wide receiver and defensive back at his high school, but will likely focus on offense at the college level.

There won’t be many players on the Tigers’ football team that Schwartz can’t outrun. His level of success will likely depend on how well he takes to learning the finer points of the position and the game as a whole.

HOW IT HURTS FLORIDA:

This may not be over, as Schwartz says he plans to visit the Gators before Signing Day. If it is over, however, UF misses on an in-state prospect that it once valued. How much the new staff values Schwartz, however, a bit unclear. Recruiting is always a bit slow to shake out after coaching transitions, but the fact that Florida’s 2018 class lacks wide receivers suggest that Schwartz may soon see his profile rise in the eyes of the Gators’ staff. UF has just one receiver committed and zero signed. That’s certainly less than ideal.
