Two-way performer getting Pac10 love

Junior to Watch: John Whitt
School: San Pedro, Calif.

Position: Wide Receiver/Free Safety
Size and Speed: Whitt stands 6-foot-1 weighs in at 195 pounds and runs the forty in 4.6. He benches 315 and he cleans 225. Whitt is a solid student who also carries a 3.4 GPA.
Honors: Whitt was selected first-team all-league and second-team all-area as a junior.
Statistics: Whitt had 50 receptions and had over 800 receiving yards last season.
Favorite Colleges: Whitt has heard from every school in the Pac10 except interesting enough the two local schools – USC and UCLA.
Skinny: Whitt is an outstanding prospect who will get a chance to play both ways for the whole season in 2003. He started both ways as junior for the last three games in 2002.
“John is very athletic and makes the circus catch,” San Pedro head coach Mike Walsh said. “He runs great routes and has excellent hands.”
Whitt will be a three-year starter as a senior as a wide receiver.
“John is very physical football player and is very aggressive on both sides of the ball,” Walsh said. “He will mix it up.”
“On offense John shows no fear when making a catch,” Walsh said. “On defense he is a very good tackler who will wrap up.”
“I have three really big time players,” Walsh said. “Legit D-I prospects, Whitt is definitely one of them.”
