Two stand out for Rivals 100 selection

With all five official visits being set over a month ago, that still hasn't stopped colleges from all over the country from calling the home of talented defensive line prospect Derrick Hill. The Oakland (Calif.) McClymonds said things are status quo with two schools still leading the pack.

Hill, 6-1, 280 pounds is the top defensive tackle in the West region in our eyes and one of the nation's best as well. He was dominant at the NorCal Nike camp where he showed a great combination of quickness (4.50-shuttle time) and strength (40 reps) and was unblockable in the one on one drills.
We later saw Hill at USC's Rising Senior camp and the lineman was so impressive, he was offered a scholarship by the Trojans immediately following the camp.
On the recruiting front, Hill has all five of his official visits set and nothing has changed on his list of favorites.
"I still have Washington (Sept. 23), Arizona (Oct. 21), Oregon (Nov. 18), USC (Dec. 2) and Cal (Dec. 9)," Hill said. "All those schools have called me along with a ton of other schools. I can't even remember all the schools that called but it has been non-stop since September. At this time though, those are my five schools and I'm not really looking at anyone else.
"I'm not totally closing the door to other schools but I'm happy with those five and as you can tell, all five are close to home and that's important to me. I want to stay close to home and be driving distance away and that's one of the things all five schools have in common. I could take an unofficial visit to another school but I really don't think I'll have time for that, it's already going to be tough getting all five visits in as it is."
Hill has maintained for some time that USC and Cal are the two schools on top and that hasn't changed.
"Yeah, those are my top two with Arizona right behind," Hill said. "With USC, I mean, they win, they're on top and who doesn't want to play for a winning program. More than that though, I just love the coaches and how down to earth everyone is there.
"It's such a fun environment there and you feel like you can be yourself. I talk to the coaches there all the time, not just my position coach but all the coaches and always enjoy watching them play.
"With Cal, I'm close with Ken Delgado, their DL coach and they're probably recruiting me harder than anyone right now. Cal is real close to home and they were the first school to offer me. They're an up and coming program that is really turning the corner and I know a lot of players there.
"Our quarterback from last year, Kyle Reed is there but whenever we talk, he always makes a point to tell me he's not going to try and recruit me because he knows how important this decision is and doesn't want to influence me. I know he likes it there though and I was actually going to call him later today."
McClymonds opens their season with Vallejo (Calif.) this weekend and a big match-up to watch will take place at the end of the month when they'll head north to take on Los Angeles (Calif.) Dorsey in a game that features three of the top 10 players in the state in Hill, teammate Joshua Tatum and Dorsey's Stafon Johnson.
