Two stand out for Austin

La Puente (Calif.) Bishop Amat's Dominique Austin is one of the state's top two way linemen. It has been a tough year for the Lancers and rough one for Austin as well who has battled some injuries throughout the season.
Austin, 6-4, 240 pounds is a talented pass rusher who can also play on the offensive line. He plays both ways at Amat but we like his upside best at defensive end as he had a dominant showing at the SoCal NIKE Camp last April.

On the season, Amat is 2-7 and has played one of the toughest schedules in the state. As a result, Austin has taken a physical pounding.
"Yeah, it has been a rough year at times for him," Austin's father Byron said. "He has played a ton of snaps against some very big kids. Dominique has played with a hurt shoulder and some other things but he has played well and has really battled all season. They just don't have the players right now to compete with some of the other teams but they're young and hopefully they'll bounce back next year."
On the recruiting front, Austin had early offers from Arizona, Utah, Colorado State, Nevada, San Jose State and San Diego State and currently two schools seem to be recruiting Austin the hardest.
"San Diego State is really recruiting him hard and so is Fresno State," Byron said. "We've been focusing on the season so we haven't set up any visits yet but once the season is over, we'll get on that. He doesn't hear from as many schools as he did before the season and I'm not sure if that's because of the season we had but he likes the schools he is hearing from so we're still excited about how things are going."
