McCray is a rare example of a player being so athletically
gifted that he reportedly still has scholarship offers on the table despite
not playing football this fall for Dillard High School.
"Michigan State, Marshall and UCF are still
recruiting me hard for football," he said. "I didn't play this year because
I had to pull my grades up and concentrate on my academics, but they're
still staying in touch with me and making sure that I know they want me to
play for them."
McCray (6-4, 193. 4.55) is a rangy wide receiver
prospect in the mold of Michigan State star Charles Rogers on the football
field and a slashing wing on the basketball court. He averaged 17 points,
nine rebounds and four assists as a junior.
"I really want to go somewhere that I can play both
sports," he said. "That's why I like Michigan State so much. Them and
Marshall and UCF have said I can play both if I want to."
McCray said he also has a basketball-only
scholarship offer from Clemson.
Official visits won't be scheduled until next month.
"I have to take the SAT on Dec. 7, then I'll have a better idea of where I
stand (academically)," he said. "A lot of the coaches recruiting me want to
know about that. I think I'm going to do a good job on it. Sitting out this
(football) season has helped me."
