Whitty talked about the Fighting Illini and his interest in that program. Veteran Jacksonville-area recruiter Dan Disch is recruiting Whitty for Illinois.
"They are in the Midwest and they play in the Big Ten conference," he said. "Coach Disch is my recruiter. He's a very nice guy that I get along with. He is very open-minded."
The 6-foot-3, 242-pounder also is hearing from Central Florida and Western Kentucky.
"Education is important to me," he said.
Most schools are recruiting Whitty as a defensive tackle.
"I played nose tackle and some other spots (on the defensive line) last year," Whitty said.
Whitty has a bench press max of 365 and has been timed as fast as 4.7
"Goal is to win a district championship," he said. "That's the first thing and then to get to state. I just want to have a successful season."
