Two lead big for Thompson

Sacramento (Calif.) Grant defensive back Syd Thompson has set up his second official visit and has two schools leading the rest of the pack by a wide margin.
Thompson, 5-9, 180 pounds is one of the regions top athletes and earned Junior Mr. Football in the state a year ago. He was off to a strong start this season but has battled injury problems, most notably a high ankle sprain, and has missed most or parts of the three of the last four games.

Thompson has still managed to rush for 959 yards and 12 touchdowns although the injury has cut down the amount of action he has seen in the secondary.
Thompson took his first official visit to Oklahoma Oklahoma in late October and will visit Cal later this month.
“I’m going to visit Cal (Nov. 19) when they play Stanford,” Thompson said. “Right now, Oklahoma and Cal are really the main two schools I’m looking at. I loved my trip to Oklahoma, it surprised me a lot. I really thought it would be one of those places, kind of out in the middle of nowhere but there is a lot to do and a lot going on. The city is a little more faster paced than I though and I really got along well with the players and coaches there.
“They have a great football team and I think they could use some help in the secondary judging by the last few games. I really like Cal a lot as well. They’re right here, close to home and I know a ton of players over there already. They have a great team this year and should be undefeated right now. I’ve been there a ton of times and it’s almost like a second home for me.
“I don’t have any other trips set up right now. I still want to take a few more but I’m not sure if I will. I think more than likely, I’ll visit UCLA and Kansas State but I don’t have any dates. USC just started recruiting me a couple of weeks ago and said they could get offer. Arizona is also still on my list and they have been recruiting me hard this whole year.”
