Two head list for RB Lucas
Baton Rouge (La.) Redemptorist running back Jay Lucas appears to be set up for a tug-of-war between frequent recruiting rivals Florida State and LSU this fall.
“Those are my top two,” he said. “I really like them a lot. It’s 50/50 between them. There may be room for a third team, but I haven’t got anyone in that spot right now.”

Coming off a junior season which saw him record 2,355 total yards and 34 touchdowns, Lucas (5-11, 224, 4.51) has drawn offers from LSU, FSU, Indiana and Northwestern State. He’s also getting interest from Minnesota, Nebraska, Colorado, Tennessee, Miami, Florida and Texas.
What will it take for the others to challenge the hometown Tigers and tradition-rich Seminoles?
“The thing I like about both of them is they like to have a big, power back in their offense,” he said. “They have styles that would fit me real good.
“I like LSU’s coaching staff a lot. I had a real good time at their camp, and I learned a lot from them. I did real nice in my running back group drills. Coach Fisher is my recruiting coach. He’s a cool guy, real laid back and funny. I liked his personality and sense of humor. He made me feel real comfortable there.
“I haven’t been to Florida State before, but that’s going to be one of my official visits for sure. I’m real interested to see what their campus and coaches are like. I’ve never met them in person, just talked to coach Heggins on the phone. He seems real nice, though.”
Academically, Lucas maintains a 2.5 core GPA and has scored a 15 on his first ACT attempt. He’s preparing to take the test again this fall, and projects as a full-qualifier.
