The five-star prospect from Oakley (Calif.) Freedom and the new top-rated all-purpose back in the 2014 rankings by Rivals.com recently made news when he said Florida and California would for sure be in his top five.
Mixon, who dominated this summer at the Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge presented by Under Armour in Chicago, has also released a top 10 and the Gators were a surprise selection after not being mentioned much in recent interviews.
Now Florida has made the top five and things are looking good between the two parties.
"With Florida I met a lot of people at The Opening and the Rivals Camp and everything and we were all talking," Mixon said. "They are all high on Florida and once I started looking into them I felt I'd fit into that program really well."
The Northern California prospect also thinks really highly of Cal especially after watching practice there this weekend.
The 6-foot-2, 207-pound recruit loves the new offense and is excited to see how the Golden Bears operate this season. Cal's coaches are making a major run at Mixon and the five-star recruit is definitely listening.
"When I went to Cal it was crazy," Mixon said. "I loved the offensive tempo and I like how they run their offense, it's a really fast pace. They move the ball and score a lot of points. With (Brendan) Bigelow leaving I could come in as a freshman and start. That could be a great opportunity for me.
"They were telling me they need me here and this could be me here in front of the home crowd in about a year."
The top 10 for Mixon: Cal, Florida, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Oregon State, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Washington and Wisconsin.
