Les Miles. He has the experience needed in the SEC, he’s won at a big-time level, he would put together a good staff and he’s a great option as a transition coach for the next 5-6 years. There are some good coaches out there like Chad Morris and Mike Norvell from the Group of Five world and they could go the young coordinator route, but Miles would be the best bet for a quick turnaround.

A great question. The matchups are awesome as we get the rubber match between Clemson and Alabama and a power football offense in Georgia against a wide-open, high flying offense in Oklahoma. I picked Clemson to win it all a few weeks ago (my pre-season pick was Ohio State) and I’m sticking with that as it defeat Alabama in another epic battle of great defenses. Oklahoma beats Georgia with that wide open offense and Clemson takes down Oklahoma in the title game. This is an early prediction, so I could change my mind, but I’m picking Clemson mainly because of that defense and front four.

The best hire is a tough one as there have been some very good ones, but I’ll go with Chip Kelly at UCLA in a tight race over Dan Mullen at Florida, Jimbo Fisher at Texas A&M and Scott Frost at Nebraska.

The reason? UCLA needed a big boost, a national name and a guy who can bring the offense needed to compete in the Pac-12 even more than Florida and A&M. The path to success is clearer in the Pac-12 and the Bruins hired one of the best college football minds of the last decade. This isn’t downplaying Mullen’s potential success or Fisher’s chance to wake the sleeping giant that is A&M, but I’d say UCLA nabbed a guy that many, many teams would have killed for.

The worst hire is Herm Edwards at Arizona State. A guy who hasn’t coached in college in forever, who was an average NFL coach and who is so out of touch with today’s recruits makes as much sense as Lovie Smith’s hire at Illinois. It’s awful.

The Shea Patterson rumors are running strong and Michigan fans would love to have him. He’s a very talented quarterback who is much more athletic than anyone Jim Harbaugh has had under center in Ann Arbor and the kid has the “it” factor in my book.

With that being said, even if he could get an exemption to the transfer rule, I don’t think Michigan is the favorite to win the Big Ten next year. Ohio State is a young team and loaded and they will be the team to beat in the Big Ten next season. However, with a potential solution at the quarterback position, Michigan could make a push and would be up there with Penn State and Michigan State as the biggest threats to the Buckeyes next season. However, there are a lot of “ifs” involved in this question.

With the right hire, I don’t think FSU struggles for long. Keep in mind, this is Florida State, a program with an amazing brand name, a great recruiting location and in a division where they can compete year in and year out. Clemson is special and what Dabo Swinney is doing there is amazing, but there is no one who can tell me that one bad year and the loss of Jimbo Fisher sets FSU back more than a year or so. They will be back and back soon.

I’ll answer these two in one fell swoop. I’d take the over for Georgia and Clemson right now. Georgia just had a four-star promoted to five stars in Adam Anderson, giving them four five-stars. They are also targeting five-stars Jamaree Salyer and Tyreke Johnson, and have a shot at five-star Cade Mays.

Clemson sits at two five-stars right now with Derion Kendrick having a great shot at a fifth star with one evaluation left. With wide receiver Justyn Ross leaning Clemson, not to mention KJ Henry, and with the Tigers involved with a few others, I think they hit the over as well. These will be two of the top recruiting classes in the country when it comes to average star ranking before all is said and done.

Grier would be very high on the list of returning college starters regardless of what other signal-callers come back. I have to make sure I say college because I think his pro potential is limited based on some funky mechanics and arm strength, but as a college player in a perfect system for him, he’s elite. West Virginia should be in the upper tier again when it comes to offense with Grier returning and he will make receivers around him better. If he decides to leave early, it would be a massive mistake.
