Tweedy down but gets huge lift

It's funny how things work out. After suffering a broken leg during seven-on-seven this spring, The Woodlands (Texas) receiver Alex Tweedy was down on his luck.
Greater Houston's leading returning receiver had done the camp and combine circuit, and was in great position for the early spring offer period. He was receiving significant interest from the likes of Stanford, Northwestern and California, until he and teammate Randy Knust collided in the Cypress-Falls tournament.

The pain of the injury, the thought of rehab and the silence on the recruiting front was deafening. Family, friends, teammates, opponents and coaches felt his pain.
Well the pain just got a little more bearable after North Texas coach Todd Dodge made the call to The Woodlands coach Mark Schmid this week. Dodge's son, Riley, had requested his dad to talk to Tweedy about coming to North Texas.
"Coach Dodge said if Riley had one receiver to throw to in the next couple years it was Alex," dad Shane Tweedy said. "Coach Dodge called Coach Schmid and asked me to call him. He said broken leg or not, that North Texas was offering Alex and the letter was in the mail.
"We will never forget that," he said. "Coach Dodge is going to get that program turned around and it is a perfect fit for Alex. We are very excited."
Ironically, it was a state seven-on-seven tournament game last year that Riley remembered Tweedy standing out in when The Woodlands defeated Southlake Carroll in the first round.
Strange how things work out.
