Turner makes early commitment

Dane Turner was being recruited by some high-level Division I teams but after attending the UC-Davis spring game last weekend and knowing the program well since his brother went there he decided to make an early commitment.
"I have decided to cut my recruiting process short and commit to UC-Davis," Turner said in an e-mail. "After attending the UC-Davis spring game this weekend, I informed head coach Bob Biggs that I am committing to UC-Davis.

"Recruiting coordinator/receiver coach Matt Wade told me I was the No. 1 recruit on their receiver board. Coach Wade told me that they have slated me to play the H receiver and that there may be an opportunity to play early."
Turner is a 6-foot-1, 185-pound receiver from Danville (Calif.) Monte Vista whose brother, Kale, played at UC-Davis so there was already familiarity with the program.
BYU, Air Force, Wyoming, Cal Poly, Oregon State, Northwestern and Columbia had either invited Turner to a junior day or camp but Turner felt comfortable at UC-Davis and wanted to end his recruitment quickly.
"I told coach Biggs that UC-Davis has been my dream school since my brother played there," Turner said. "UC-Davis is one of the top public universities in the nation with a football program that has a long history of offensive excellence and great receivers.
"I am honored to be considered a prospective recruit for these (other) programs. After consulting with my family I felt the opportunity to stay in Nor Cal and play for UC-Davis was too good an opportunity to pass up."
