Tucker talks ACC interest
When the Clemson coaches told class of 2015 Concord (N.C.) Robinson athlete Carl Tucker Jr. that they wanted him to play strong safety at their camp in May, he wasn't sure what to expect.

Tucker's background is at wide receiver, with some schools wanting him as a tight end. Looking to impress the Tigers coaches, he obliged, and came away with surprising results.
"They want me at strong safety and that's the first time I had ever done those type of drills," Tucker said. "It was a good camp. It went well. For my first time I think I did pretty well."
Tucker did well enough that the Tigers coaches surprised him with a scholarship offer following the conclusion of the camp.
"It was huge," Tucker said of the offer. "I was very, very surprised. I wasn't expecting them to offer me that soon. I think it's a big deal for me to start off with my first offer being Clemson. "
Since then Tucker has heard from several schools and he recently camped at both North Carolina and N.C. State. He said the Wolfpack want him on the offensive side of the ball.
"I went to N.C. State's camp as a tight end and I did pretty good there," Tucker said. "That's sort of a new position for me, too, but it's similar to wide receiver so I was a little more comfortable."
Tucker said he doesn't have a preference for offense or defense at the next level.
"I prefer to play wide receiver but I think I'm getting kind of big for that," he said. "Wherever they want me, strong safety, tight end, I can play both sides."
After competing in the IMG 7-on-7 National Championship tournament last weekend, Tucker said he's done for camps and is ready to focus on his upcoming junior season.
However, he is looking forward to unofficial visits in the fall.
"I want to get to a game and UNC and see what that's like," he said. "I'd also like to get out of a state and check out South Carolina."
