Truelove likes the Big Ten

Snellville (Ga.) Brookwood is one of the top programs in the entire country. In being so, one might expect that it would be chock-full of Division I prospects. Usually the Broncos produce at least two or three high caliber recruits and the 2005 class is no different. This year topping the list is defensive tackle Brian Truelove.
“I’m getting a lot of letters coming in right now,” said Truelove. “I don’t have any offers yet, but I really think that I’m getting close. Iowa and Illinois are probably sending me the most stuff right now.”

The 6-foot-2, 265 pound Truelove runs the 40 yard dash in 5 seconds flat. He is one of the strongest prospects in the South with a 425 pound bench press.
“I visited Iowa, Illinois, Maryland, Wisconsin and Connecticut over spring break. They are probably my top five right now. I’m looking at other schools, but since I have had the chance to visit those I know a good bit about them.”
As a junior he collected 46 tackles, six of which were for loss, four sacks, caused two fumbles, recovering one of them.
“I was probably the most impressed with Iowa. I got to sit in on the position meetings with the coaches. I was there when they were in the middle of classes and I got to see what it would be like to go to school there. I just felt really comfortable with them.”
Iowa isn’t the only school making a push for the big man.
“Maryland was a step up from everyone else as far as facilities go. They had top of the line everything. UConn’s stuff wasn’t all that nice, but they are getting a billion dollar grant. You can buy a lot of stuff with a billion dollars.”
He earned all-Gwinnett county honors in his junior campaign. Even though he grew up a Georgia Tech fan, he admits that he might like to try something different.
“I would really kind of like to go up north. I really want to play in the Big Ten and just see something different. I just think that I would fit in better there. Don’t get me wrong Georgia and Georgia Tech are great programs and I haven’t marked them off of my list, but right now I just really like the Big Ten.”
Truelove plans to attend the NIKE camp at Georgia Tech on May 8th.
