Troy gets a sweet surprise

Live Oak (Fla.) Suwannee wide receiver Patrick Cherry is more proof that Troy is one of the nation's fastest rising mid majors. The Trojans picked up several big commitments over the weekend, but perhaps none were bigger than Cherry.
"I committed to Troy this weekend on my official visit," Cherry said. "I had some really good offers from schools like Iowa State and all, but in the end Troy was just the best fit for me."

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Cherry was a consensus Class 3A all-state selection in Florida in 2003. He had 51 receptions for 820 yards and six touchdowns for Suwannee and helped his team make a strong march into the state playoffs.
"In the end Troy was just closer to home than Iowa State," Cherry said. "It is only about three and a half hours from home and my family can come watch me play. It is a program on the rise and they play a lot of big name teams."
As a senior, Cherry caught over 50 passes again but for just over 600 yards, due to a more conservative passing attack from his team.
"My commitment is firm and I plan to sign with Troy on signing day, I have no other official visits."
