Tristen Ross has narrowed his list down to three lucky
schools.
A trio of national powers -- Tennessee, Texas and
Oklahoma -- have made the cut.
"I just kind of wanted to make this whole thing a
lot easier," said Ross, the one-time Sooners verbal commitment and a member of the Rivals.com
Southeast
Top 100 team. "I've had a ton of teams calling and sending me
stuff, making things pretty difficult to decide, so I made my mind up to go
ahead and narrow things down."
The Evangel Christian standout had previously been
considering Texas Tech and Michigan as well.
He's made a visit to Texas for the Longhorns' game
against Houston on Sept. 21. He's scheduled a trip to Oklahoma on Nov. 2 for
the Colorado game, and the Volunteers will have his third visit when they
play host to the nation's current No. 1 team, Miami, on Nov. 9.
He talked about each of those programs, stressing
that all were on a level playing field at this point:
"With Tennessee, the thing I really like is how they
get the ball to their go-to receivers' hands," he said. "They always have
big-time receivers making plays, and they send a lot of guys to the NFL. One
of my best friends from Evangel, (freshman receiver) Jonathan Wade, is up
there, too. It would be fun to play with him again.
"With Oklahoma, they're still as strong as ever with
me. A lot of people have asked if they're still on top of my list and all
since I decided to pull back my verbal and wait a while, but I still have
the same feelings for them. That's where all my family is, and I really like
coach (Bob) Stoops and the rest of the coaching staff.
"With Texas, I really enjoyed my trip there. It was
a pleasant surprise because I didn't know what great team unity they had.
That really impressed me. It seemed like more of a family atmosphere, kind
of like we have here at Evangel. The coaches are like fathers and their
players are all like brothers. It just seemed like a great place to play."
Ross, who is recovering from a sprained MCL which
has limited him to three games this season, says he's almost back at full
strength. He's caught 10 passes this season, and is awaiting his first
touchdown catch as a senior.
As a junior, Ross (6-1, 190, 4.5) had 34 receptions
for 502 yards and four touchdowns in earning Louisiana all-state honors.
