Trio of schools lead for Mayo

Hampton (Va.) Kecoughtan outside linebacker Jerod Mayo will be taking his final two official visits this month. He already has three leaders -- who has the edge?
"NC State, Virginia and Virginia Tech are my three favorites," said Mayo. "I've already visited NC State, UVA and Purdue, and of those trips NC State was the best. I had the most fun there and I was really impressed with the situation I could be in if I go there. The people at Purdue were just the nicest people in the world, but it's a whole different atmosphere up there than there is here in the Virginia-North Carolina area. But of my three favorites I don't think one stands out any more than the two others."

The 6-foot-2, 214-pound linebacker runs the 40-yard dash in 4.62 seconds and is ranked the No. 4 player in Virginia by Rivals.com. He has official visits to two schools in the month of January.
"I've still got to take visits to Tennessee (Jan. 16) and Virginia Tech (Jan. 23). I'm real excited about both of those. Virginia Tech will be good because I really like them and can't wait to talk to their coaches more.
"And I just can't wait for the Tennessee visit. They're a big-time program. I really want to see that 100,000 seat stadium," he laughed. "They had a tough game in the Peach Bowl, but they aren't going anywhere."
Mayo said he plans on making his decision within a week of his visit to Virginia Tech.
