Trice dominates at Texas State Tournament

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Skeeters of Mesquite High School were one of the top teams at the Texas State 7 on 7 tournament, coming up just three points short of winning the large school championship on Saturday. A big reason for that success was cornerback/wide receiver Marcus Trice, the three-star was virtually un-defendable all weekend and was perhaps the top overall performer of the weekend.
At 5-foot-8, Trice is best suited for the cornerback position but due to his athleticism he was a force on offense making big catch after big catch. That versatility will have him playing several roles for his high school team in the fall.

"We have a lot of athletes on the field and the guys that play behind me and play in front of me, they all get it done so I'm not really sure how coach is going to use me," Trice said. "I might start at slot and at corner but there's going to be a heavy rotation because there's a lot of guys that can ball."
Trice, who was one of the top performers at the TCU Nike Camp as well, has received 12 scholarship offers to date, most of which are for his cornerback abilities.
"I want to play DB just because I know at the next level that's where they'll be looking at me at but offensively I love to go in on offense and any way they can get the ball in my hands and watch what I can do with it," he said. "It'll be a hard decision (what to play in college), I'll just leave it up to the coaches whenever I get to where I'm going."
Most recently, Trice picked up an offer from Utah State.
"Utah State offered me the other day," he said. "They just lost their top receiver and their top corner so they're looking to bring me in to play both actually and they want me to punt return and kick return. So that's my newest offer that just happened a couple days ago."
Though Trice doesn't have any favorites, he does have a few schools that stick out to him.
"The schools that I know the most about are Tulsa, Wisconsin, Arizona, Nebraska and OU," he said. "That's not my top five. I don't have a top five but those are the schools that I know the most about. I'm just doing my research on the rest of the schools that have offered me so that will probably change."
Among those five, as well as Iowa who he also mentioned, he has offers from all of them except Nebraska and Oklahoma. Currently, Trice has already thought about his official visit schedule as well.
"I know that I definitely have official visits lined up for Arizona and Wisconsin," he said. "I think I'm going to Wisconsin when they play Ohio State and I'm going to Arizona when they play USC. If Oklahoma offers, I'll visit them when they play UT."
Though he may be undersized at 5-foot-8, Trice has proven time and time again that he plays well above his size. As he continues to dominate every setting he has attended this summer, there is little doubt that that will continue on the next level.
