AS A RECRUIT

Unranked and without even a Rivals.com profile as a high school prospect, Perry, a Cary, N.C. native, landed at FCS South Carolina State as a member of the Class of 2016.

AT SOUTH CAROLINA STATE

After taking a redshirt early in his career, Perry developed into a star and had a breakout year in 2019. He finished the year with 34 tackles, 14.5 tackles for a loss, 4.5 sacks, 1 forced fumble. According to Pro Football Focus, Perry was one of the highest-graded defensive linemen in all of FCS, logging a total grade of 91.1 out of 100. Heading into 2020, Perry was named a preseason All-American and was mentioned as a possible NFL Draft pick. But after the MEAC canceled the fall season, Perry entered the portal for his final year of eligibility. As a graduate transfer, he will be eligible to play right away at his next school.

POTENTIAL LANDING SPOTS

Perry should have plenty options, even though he's making a move pretty late in the game. As a North Carolina native, schools like North Carolina would seem to make sense. Either way, look for him to find a new home quickly and one at the FBS level.

FARRELL'S TAKE

"Perry is a big and active defensive tackle who has been on some NFL scouts radars as a late pick or free agent to watch. The step up in competition will be a big one but he has the size and strength to compete at the FBS level. He’s more of a depth guy who could turn into a starter." -- National Recruiting Director Mike Farrell

Impact Rating: 6.1 out of 10

IMPACT METER

The Transfer Portal continues to change the way college football programs recruit and mange their rosters so we here at Rivals.com continue to evolve our coverage. Each time a player of note enters the portal, we will examine their potential impact on the college football landscape and assign an impact rating, both when they enter the portal and when they choose a destination. The scale is from 1-10 and the description below explains the scoring scale.

1.1-4.0 — Not a big impact expected, likely a non-starter and down the bench depth player.

4.1- 6.0 — A solid impact can be expected in the right scenario and has the potential to battle for a starting job.

6.1-9.0. — A high impact player who won’t change a program but will certainly be a very good contributor and starter.

9.1- 9.9 — A very high impact player who should start the moment he steps on the field and will change the outlook of a program immediately.

10 — A franchise transfer who has a chance to be an All American and one of the elite players in college football.
