Transfer Tracker: Alfano is back on the market

Mark Pszonak contributed to this report.

The transfer portal never stops with the excitement. On Wednesday, former five-star Antonio Alfano entered for the second time after not making an impact at Colorado.

Recruiting: one of the top players in the class of 2019, Alfano had options at programs all over the country. But focused in early on Alabama and committed to the Tide last spring and never wavered on that pledge.

At Alabama and Colorado: With the Tide, Alfano was only around for two games (he didn't play) before announcing his plans to enter the transfer portal. He transferred to Colorado a month later, where he was diagnosed with epilepsy and later was suspended for violating team rules. He was reinstated last summer, but never played in Boulder.

Potential landing spots: Texas Tech, North Carolina, UCF, Temple, Southern Miss

Farrell’s Take: Alfano has had his issues off the field and we’ve never been able to see what he can do at the college level on it. His talent is unquestioned but at this point he’s a complete wildcard for a team who thinks he can put it all together. It’s risky but might be worth it and he’s getting a lot of Power Five attention already. As an interior defensive lineman he can compete to start immediately but the off field stuff keeps his impact level low.

IMPACT METER

The Transfer Portal continues to change the way college football programs recruit and manage their rosters so we here at Rivals.com continue to evolve our coverage. Each time a player of note enters the portal, we will examine their potential impact on the college football landscape and assign an impact rating, both when they enter the portal and when they choose a destination. The scale is from 1-10 and the description below explains the scoring scale.

1.1-4.0 — Not a big impact expected, likely a non-starter and down the bench depth player.

4.1- 6.0 — A solid impact can be expected in the right scenario and has the potential to battle for a starting job.

6.1-9.0. — A high impact player who won’t change a program but will certainly be a very good contributor and starter.

9.1- 9.9 — A very high impact player who should start the moment he steps on the field and will change the outlook of a program immediately.

10 — A franchise transfer who has a chance to be an All American and one of the elite players in college football.
