Top Texas junior set to shine

Houston Dobie junior Sam Proctor is one of the nation's most celebrated junior entering the 2005 campaign and was recently named to Rivals.com's list of 100 players to watch for the Class of 2007.
The 6-foot-1, 190-pound athlete is a hybrid prospect who has moved to quarterback for the Longhorns.

"Sam is probably the best Division I prospect in our program," Dobie coach Tommy Kaiser said. "We moved him to quarterback this year after he caught 15 balls last year at wide out. He's improved so much this offseason and summer. I'd say he'd be a great defensive back or running back in college, but he could develop into terrific quarterback. He really likes quarterback.
"He's improved his throwing, especially through seven-on-seven and he really excels when he's using his legs," he said.
Proctor is also a member of the Longhorn relay teams, which reached regionals last spring.
Proctor is beyond his years physically and mentally. He is ripped. He has a firm handshake and is mature. He seems to know what is about to take place over the next few years and is prepared to hurdle every obstacle in front of him.
"I know it's early but I like Oklahoma State, Florida State and Kansas State," he said with a smile.
Proctor's main target on offense will be senior wide receiver Xavier Bowman (6-2, 200) who has been receiving some recruiting attention over the past six months.
"Xavier doesn't have any offers, but he's got a lot of interest," Proctor said. "He has the size to play on the next level and good hands. He's got good speed also."
