Rising Nashville (Tenn.) tight end prospect Tom Santi is preparing for his second official visit this coming weekend.
“I went to Iowa about three weeks ago, and I’ll be going to Virginia this week,” said the Montgomery Bell Academy standout. “I’m real excited about that trip. They’ll be playing Florida State, which should be a really fun game, and I’ve been looking forward to going to meet all their coaches and players for a long time.
“I don’t really have a clear-cut favorite right now, but Virginia is pretty close. Them and Iowa are probably the closest to the top, then Tennessee, Stanford, LSU and Miami.”
Santi (6-5, 225, 4.52) is rated the No. 15 player at his position nationally. He has offers from all of the schools on his list of six with the exception of the Hurricanes.
“But their offensive coordinator came to school a couple of weeks ago and he’s stayed in touch with me, so I think they’re still interested,” Santi said. “They jumped in there kind of late, but I’m interested. They have a great program.”
Santi said he does not have any other official visits scheduled at this time.
“I’ll probably wait and do the other three after the season,” he said. “We have the playoffs coming up soon, so I want to concentrate on our team.”
Santi has helped lead MBA to an 8-0 record and the No. 14 national ranking by USA Today. He’s been slowed by a high-ankle sprain and a dislocated shoulder along the way, but has still caught approximately 25 passes for 300 yards.
“I had two touchdown catches, but both of them got called back on penalties,” he said. “It’s killing me.”
As a junior, Santi hauled in 46 passes for 650 yards and 12 touchdowns.
