Top player in Kansas makes his pick

Ottawa, Kan., is about 30 minutes to the south of Lawrence, Kan., and the University of Kansas. But for 6-foot-5, 270-pound offensive lineman Caleb Blakesley from Ottawa, Lawrence felt like home sweet home.
Blakesley, the top ranked player in the state of Kansas by Rivals.com, unofficially visited KU earlier today and decided it was time to end the recruiting process.

“I just went up there and decided it was the right time and the right place to go ahead and commit,” Blakesley said. “I orally committed to Kansas. I told coach (Mark) Mangino, and he was really excited.”
Blakesley, who also had an offer from Wyoming and was getting interest from Colorado State, Missouri, Nebraska, Kansas State and Northwestern, earned all-league and all-area honors as a junior and a sophomore.
He said he picked KU for a number of reasons.
“I just liked the coaching staff and all that stuff,” he said. “It’s also close to home, and my friends and family could see me play every week. I’m excited about my decision.”
