Top Kentucky ATH has short list

Ask any college coach and they will tell you that one of the first things they look for each recruiting season is a big, play-making skill position players who can come in and contribute early. If that is the case then the first place many coaches will be stopping when they visit the Bluegrass State is Lewisport (KY) Hancock County to check out Mike Schwindel.
“So far I only have one scholarship offer and that is from Kentucky,” Schwindel said.

“I’m getting letters from Louisville, Tennessee, Purdue and Louisville also though. Indiana State has shown me interest in both football and basketball, but I really think that I’m only interested in playing football in college.
Basketball was always my first love and I still love it, but in the last several years my focus has really shifted to football. I realized that it would probably be a better move for me and I thought that it was something I could have a better career at.”
The 6-foot-4, 205 pound Schwindel runs the 40 yard dash in 4.55 seconds, has a 225 pound bench press, 350 pound squat and 35 inch vertical jump.
“My top three schools are Louisville, Kentucky and Tennessee. I have always been a Kentucky fan and I am pretty familiar with the program there. They have been showing me the most interest and I have already watched one of their spring practices. I also went to junior day at Louisville.”
He went on to say that he planned to attend the NIKE camp at Georgia Tech on May 8th.
“Academics are a top priority for me. I have always made pretty good grades and I want to go somewhere that puts an emphasis on the academic side of things. I want to go into some type of engineering and I want to make sure that the school I go to has a good engineering program. I really don’t want to go to from home either.”
The studious Schwindel boasts a 3.93 GPA and has already scored a 25 on the ACT. As a junior he picked up 56 tackles and nine interceptions.
