Top junior QB thinking West

Junior to Watch: John David Booty
School: Shreveport (La.) Evangel

Position: Quarterback
Size and Speed: Booty stands 6-foot-4 and weighs 195. He has been timed in the 40 at 4.5 seconds at the Nike combine when he was a sophomore.
Honors: Booty was selected first-team all-state and everything team in between as a junior.
Statistics: Booty threw for 4,330 yards and 50 touchdowns as a sophomore. He threw for 4,144 yards and 38 touchdowns as a junior. For his career Booty has hit on 555 passes out of 864 passes while completing 64% of his attempts. Booty has 88 touchdowns for his high school.
Favorite Colleges: Booty has offers from everybody in the known world and couple other offers from others. “John David really has an affinity for the West Coast,” John David’s Dad John Booty said. “He has been out there several times over the past few years and really likes it a lot.” That could be good news for western teams. The word on the street is USC is looking good. Booty is also familiar with UCLA and if there is success on the field the Bruins could also find themselves in a good position for his services. Other schools that are in the hunt are Michigan, Tennessee, Texas, ASU and Miami. Not a bad a bad group is it?
Skinny: Being a great athlete is in Booty’s genetics. His Dad John Booty played quarterback at Mississippi State. His brother Josh Booty had the all-time passing yardage record when he left high school many years ago.
Josh Booty ended up signing a baseball contract with the Florida Marlins out of high school. After baseball didn’t work out he returned to LSU and resumed his football career. He is now a back up quarterback for the Cleveland Browns.
John David’s other brother was an outstanding wide receiver. Abram Booty has the all-time high school record for receptions on the high school level and played for LSU.
“As a quarterback John David is big athletic and has a powerful arm like Josh,” Evangel offensive coordinator John Booty said. “He also has the speed and quickness of his brother Abram. He has all the good athletic qualities of both of his brothers.”
Right now Booty is really looking at USC. He is very impressed with the way Carson Palmer developed. USC really turned it on nationally.
Another thing that has colleges excited is if Booty decides to, he could graduate in December. Meaning he will be able to enroll into his school of choice and participate in spring ball.
Another thing that could be in USC’s favor is Evangel has a lot of respect for Norm Chow and BYU. Of course Chow was a longtime offensive coordinator for Cougars.
When Evangel first started their program they scoured the D-I level for teams that consistently won with less talent and BYU came up quite often.
They decided to take elements of BYU’s passing game and the rest is history. Evangel has one of the best, if not the best passing attack in high school football.
Because of that Booty has an advanced knowledge of the passing game and is excellent at reading coverage.
To make matters worse for Evangel fans, they now have an awesome running game to go with explosive passing game.
