Mallard Creek is one of the top high school programs in North Carolina, with top seniors like 5-star offensive lineman D.J. Humphries, plus running back Jela Duncan, and wide receiver Jamel Harbison. On the defensive side of the ball, the top player may be junior cornerback Brian Walker. Walker has already received offers from Auburn and South Carolina and has helped his team to a 3-0 start.
Walker is very happy with how recruiting is moving along for him to this point.
"It has been real good so far," said Walker. "I have been getting a lot of stuff from different schools, lot of mail, and game invites."
With all of this interest, comes the possibility of more offers.
"I am not sure, but if I was to take a guess I would say that Wake Forest or Clemson would offer me next," said Walker. "I am actually going to the Clemson-Auburn game this Saturday."
What is the most important factor when looking at schools?
"A team that is moving in the right direction and has the ability to win a championship," said Walker, 5-foot-11 and 170-pounds. "I don't want to go to a school that is willing to settle for anything else."
While it is early, Walker is already developing some early favorites.
"Right now the team that is somewhat leading is South Carolina," said Walker. "It is not a big margin, Auburn would be close to it and if Florida, Clemson or Wake Forest offered they would be up there, especially Florida."
Walker has one interception and said he is hoping to do whatever he can to help his team go undefeated this season.
