Top juco safety has top two

One of the better junior college defensive backs available this year is Tyler (Texas) Junior College strong safety Michael Johnson. Coming out of Pflugerville High in Texas Johnson had the talent but didn’t have the grades. He knew early in the process that his grades would keep him from receiving any offers.
“I was getting recruited my junior year,” the 6-foot-3, 195-pound Johnson said. “I was getting letters from a bunch of schools but they knew what I knew, that I was a for sure non-qualifier. My grades were really bad so nobody really bothered after they saw them.”

Johnson decided to enroll at Tyler and get his grades in order and so far, so good for the talented safety.
“Right now I have a 2.7 GPA and I will graduate in December and I will have two years to play two,” he said. “I am majoring in general studies and I am taking my grades a lot more seriously now.”
On the recruiting front Johnson has received pretty heavy interest and has received three written offers so far.
“Right now I have offers from three schools” he said. “Arizona, Texas A&M and Kansas have offered. I am also getting a lot of mail and I am in contact with Florida, Nebraska and Baylor.”
As far as favorites go Johnson admits to having two schools at the top right now.
“Right now Arizona and Florida are my clear top two,” he said. “I really like both schools and I hope Florida offers and I think they might. Arizona has Mike and Mark Stoops and they really know how to coach defense and especially the secondary guys.”
Johnson has one official visit scheduled so far to Arizona on Nov. 26.
