PAISLEY, Fla. - Rivals.com recruiting analyst Barry Every spent Sunday's morning session of the FBU Top Gun Showcase evaluating quarterbacks and receivers. Quarterbacks coach Rich Bartell and receivers coach Andre Rison allowed Rivals.com exclusive and complete access to their thoughts and to the prospects they were coaching.
Barry Every's Quarterback Evaluations
Drew Allen, PQB, San Antonio (TX) Alamo Heights
Assets: He has a very live arm and is an intelligent signal-caller.
What was most impressive at camp: Really displayed nice velocity and good spin on his ball while warming up.
Areas for improvement: Needs to relax and not press himself to impress everyone.
On the Hoof: Has excellent height and a frame that looks like a tall shooting guard.
Tajh Boyd, DQB, Hampton (VA) Phoebus
Assets: Another very intelligent quarterback who exudes leadership qualities.
What was most impressive at camp: Has a strong desire to be the best he can be and has a great relationship with his fellow campers.
Areas for improvement: Boyd was really pressing himself this morning, and it affected his throwing motion, causing his ball to sail high. He just needs to relax and have fun.
On the Hoof: Already filled out and physically ready to compete at the next level.
Charley Loeb, PQB, Groton (MA) Lawrence Academy
Assets: Has tremendous velocity on his short and mid range passes and had a very tight spin on his passes.
What was most impressive at camp: This kid has really come a long way since he was evaluated earlier this year. Loeb is more accurate than earlier this year and has turned himself into a legit D-I prospect.
Areas for improvement: It's obvious that all the camps he has attended this year have paid off; he just needs to continue to get reps.
On the Hoof: Probably the most physically impressive quarterback. Has great height and is built like an athletic TE.
Kevin Newsome, DQB Chesapeake (VA) Western Branch
Assets: Has great size and very quick feet.
What was most impressive at camp: He demonstrated very good velocity and had nice spin on his passes.
Areas for improvement: Newsome needs to work on his drops and timing, which should help his accuracy.
On the Hoof: Like Boyd, he is physically filled out and has the legs of a sprinter.
Barry Every's Receiver Evaluations
Randall Carroll, WR Los Angeles (CA) Cathedral
Assets: Extremely fast and surprisingly good hands for a speed demon.
What was most impressive at camp: Ran very precise routes and can get deep with ease.
Areas for improvement: Needs to work on getting off the bump at the line of scrimmage.
On the Hoof: Carroll is really ripped and looks the part of a track star.
Shaquelle Evans, 6-0, 200, WR Inglewood (CA) Inglewood
Assets: Evans has excellent speed and really can create space with his powerful body.
What was most impressive at camp: He seems to take to coaching very well and is eager to learn.
Areas for improvement: He is a tad stiff and should work on his lateral movement. Sometimes fights the ball when trying to make a catch. He really reminds me of a young Laveranues Coles.
On the Hoof: He must have less than 8 percent body fat and is really yoked up for a receiver.
Anthony Foster, WR Tulsa (OK) Union
Assets: Has very good body control and great hands.
What was most impressive at camp: Foster has been the surprise of camp, showing great hands and really impressing receivers coach Andre Rison.
Areas for improvement: Needs to work some on his overall speed.
On the Hoof: Has the build of a running back with great lower body structure.
Bryce McNeal, 6-2, 185, WR Minneapolis (MN) Breck
Assets: Runs precise routes and has excellent hands.
What was most impressive at camp: He really comes out of his breaks with explosion and has great body control. McNeal is also a very intelligent player.
Areas for improvement: Needs to add some muscle mass in order to hold up physically at the next level.
On the Hoof: A very lean receiver with long arms and big hands.
Logan Thomas, ATH Lynchburg (VA) Brookville
Assets: Has the ability to get off the bump and has very good hands.
What was most impressive at camp: He may not look super fast, but when he gets into his stride he can blow by defensive backs.
Areas for improvement: Needs to run crisper routes and not round off his breaks.
On the Hoof: Very tall and lean, looks like a small forward in basketball. There is no doubt he has the potential to be a big athletic TE.
