Top Georgia RB has his eyes on South Carolina

ATHENS, Ga.Jonathan Sewell is one of the top running backs in the state of Georgia for 2019. He is a 5-foot-11, 185 pound running back out of Athens (Ga.) Clarke Central and he was offered by South Carolina last summer. He saw his teammate Zay Brown sign with the Gamecocks in February and Sewell could re-unite with Brown in Columbia (S.C.) down the road.

"I have been to South Carolina a lot already," said Sewell. "I have been there for games, I have went to camp there and I know a lot about the school. I like the coaches and how they take care of their players.

"They have kept in contact with me, they are always showing me attention and the way they have recruited me has shown me they really have interest in me."

South Carolina's running backs coach Bobby Bentley is the lead recruiter for Sewell and the two talk often and they have developed a strong relationship.

"He doesn't go overboard talking about recruiting, but he wants to get to know me and see how I am doing as a person. He sends me little messages, he is easy to talk to and he is a coach I am really liking right now."

Although Sewell is very close to Brown, the 2017 Gamecock signee, the two do not talk a lot about the Gamecocks. Brown wants his friend to go where he wants to go.

"Zay is not pushing me to South Carolina. He wants me to follow my heart and just find the right place. He is not in my ear about South Carolina because he wants what is best for me.

"He really tells me to take my time, to see who all offers and I am listening to what he has to say. I saw him get recruited and it really just made me more hungry to be that guy. I know it was a great experience for him, so I know it will be my turn soon."

The early offer and interest from South Carolina has put the SEC school high on his list. Sewell is far from a decision, but Will Muschamp's program has his attention.

"South Carolina is a top program, they have great fans and I do like them a lot," said Sewell. "I am going to be patient and look at the different offers I get, but with coach Bentley, the way South Carolina recruits me and them offering me early, it could make a difference."
