Top five breakout candidates: Midwest

Current offers: Gordon is still waiting on his first offer.
The skinny: The 6-foot-5, 235-pound Gordon has always looked the part of a big-time Division 1 prospect, but early in his career his on-field performance did not measure up. That has changed recently and Gordon has had a string of strong camp performances coming off his junior season. The mid-Michigan defensive end recently transferred from Arthur Hill in Saginaw out to Bridgeport High School, so that may have slowed down his recruitment, but once college coaches are able to get on the road this spring, they will like the progression the three-star defensive end has shown over the last year.
RB
Jeremy Larkin
Cincinnati (Ohio) LaSalle
Current offers: Larkin holds seven offers, including ones from Power Five schools Boston College, Northwestern and Wake Forest.
The skinny: There is not much more Larkin could have done as a junior to gain college coaches' attention. The three-star rushed for 2,584 yards and 38 touchdowns to lead LaSalle to a state title. The only real knock on him is that at 5-foot-10 and 180 pounds, he does not have great size for the position, but he was just as effective between the tackles as he was out on the edge and he runs with such patience and good pad level that his size really does not hold him back.
WR
Jalen Martin
Harper Woods (Mich.) Chandler Park
Current offers: Five Mid-American Conference schools have offered Martin - Akron, Eastern Michigan, Miami (Ohio), Toledo and Western Michigan.
The skinny: The state of Michigan is flush with wide receiver talent in the 2016 class, and Martin got a little lost in the crowd early on. But, with Desmond Fitzpatrick already making a commitment and Donnie Corley holding more than two dozen offers, Martin should see more attention this spring. The 6-foot-2, 192-pound receiver is also a good basketball player and brings that run-and-jump ability to the football field. He is a powerful wide receiver who can bully defensive backs and is a weapon in the red zone and over the middle.
ATH
Al Young
Cape Girardeau (Mo.) Central
Current offers: Young holds one offer from Southeast Missouri State.
The skinny: The 6-foot, 170-pound Young is a do-everything athlete who registered eight interceptions and had several return touchdowns as a junior. He could potentially project to wide receiver or defensive back, and brings that return ability with him to college. Young is a playmaker no matter what side of the football he is on. He has plenty of speed, but it is his ball skills that really pop on film. He has a nose for the football on defense and he knows how to find the end zone on offense. Those skills are always in high demand, and he should be a popular recruit this spring.
