FT. WORTH, Tx. -- Aledo running back Jase McClellan has well established himself as a name to know heading into next year after turning heads throughout his team’s state championship run last season.

The 2020 standout was one of the most closely watched players at the Lone Star Prospects Showcase on Sunday, and though he hasn’t been quite as visible on the camp circuit as some, this past weekend he very much looked the part of a player starting to really come into his own.

“Spring has been awesome and we start practice this week,” he said. “We’re getting our team together, we got a lot of spots open, so we got a lot of players stepping up.”

McClellan already has an offer list many 2018 prospects would be jealous of, but said that he’s excited about Michigan and Nebraska jumping into his recruitment.

"Definitely, they’re coming in at the top,” he said. “They’re Big Ten schools and there’s a lot of great football up there - a lot of great fans and a lot of comfortable places to play.”

IN HIS WORDS

On Michigan, where former teammate Chuck Filiaga signed in 2017

“Chuck’s already trying to convince to me to come there,” he said. “But I still have a lot of time ahead of me before my senior year when I make my decision.”

On Jim Harbaugh, who gave a pregame speech before an Aledo game last season

“It showed me how he really is in person,” he said. “He showed that you can just come to him and talk about anything and he’s a great coach.”

On Nebraska, where he plans on attending a camp this June

“I just want to go out there and get a feel for how they play football and how physical they are,” he said. “I want to take a look at how they run the football and just get a good look at things.

“Fans have been showing me a lot of love,” he added. “They really want me to come there.”

RIVALS REACTION

McClellan is a long way from any sort of major decisions in his recruitment, but is going to be one of the more strongly-pursued prospects in Texas for the next few years. He showed up to Sunday’s event looking bigger than expected, but showed off a variety of talents to further confirm his future as a premier three-down back. He may not have any significant plans at the moment for the rest of his summer, but offers are sure to continue to come his way.
