After making an official visit to Ohio State during the middle of last week, three star Clermont (Fla.) East Ridge defensive back Chimdi Chekwa needed less than a week to decide he wanted to be a Buckeye.
"I committed to Ohio State," Chekwa said. "I talked to coach Tressel and told him."
There were a number of reasons Chekwa selected the Buckeyes over scholarship offers from Maryland and Wake Forest among others.
"I felt Ohio State was the best school for me compared to the others," he said. "They have nice facilities and good coaches and trainers. They have things other schools don't have. They are always good in football."
Chekwa will play soley on defense for the Buckeyes.
"I'll play cornerback," he said. "I've played some wide receiver too, but I'll just play defense at Ohio State."
The 6-foot-0 and 165 pound Chekwa intercepted four passes his junior year and seven more during his senior season. He is the No. 50 cornerback prospect in the Rivals.com player rankings. Chekwa made official visits to Ohio State and Maryland and canceled a January trip to Wake Forest.
