Tight Race For Safety Jerome Boyd

It was a big day for Washington as they picked up commitments from two of the top safety prospects in the West in Los Angeles (Calif.) Venice standout Mesphin Forrester and Coffeyville CC (Kan.) and former Husky signee Dashon Goldson. They’re also doing very well with yet another safety who we actually like better than both Forrester and Goldson, Los Angeles (Calif.) Dorsey’s Jerome Boyd, the hardest hitting defensive back in the region this year.
Dorsey, 6-2, 180 pounds may look slight of build but he’s a fierce hitter and one of the most intimidating players in the West. In watching his senior highlite tape, the safety doesn’t just tackle opposing ball carriers, he destroys them. Boyd has a great feel for the game and is always around the ball. On special teams, Boyd is almost always the first man down the field and routinely takes out two or three players every kickoff.

On the recruiting front, Boyd took his first official visit to Washington last weekend and said the Huskies are doing very well with him right now.
“I had a great time,” Boyd said. “I really liked hanging out with the players and coaches, there’s a real family atmosphere there. I fit in really well there and everyone made me feel like part of the family. Since it was my first trip, I don’t really know if I can say I have a leader. I need to take a couple more trips first but it’s probably Washington and Oregon at the top right now.
“Oregon came in for a home visit last week, Coach Belotti and Coach Pellum and it went really well. I’m going to visit Oregon on (Jan. 9) and I’m definitely looking forward to it. I’ve heard a lot of good things about the school and can’t wait to see it firsthand. Arizona is also moving up my list. I got a call last night from Coach (Mike) Stoops and we set up a trip for (Jan. 16). He’s a great defensive coach and told me I could be their Roy Williams who he coached at Oklahoma. That guy was amazing so I’m definitely interested in Arizona right now too.”
