The Tigers have picked up commitment No. 8 from Lake Charles (La.) Barbe all-purpose back Justin Vincent. The 5-foot-11, 190-pounder is a Rivals100 selection and one of the top three all-purpose backs in the nation and some college coaches think he might just be the top player overall in the state of Louisiana.
Vincent’s mother told TigerBait.com on Tuesday night that her son had spoke with LSU head coach Nick Saban and running backs coach Mike Haywood about committing last week. They told Vincent that he needed to speak with his high school coach about the decision first.
LSU running backs coach Mike Haywood is responsible for the recruitment of Vincent and it was he that received the confirming phone call from Barbe head coach Jimmy Shavers on Tuesday.
"He said he felt he wanted to get it out of the way so he could have a good senior season, " said Lilly Vincent.
Vincent, who has been clocked at 4.4-seconds in the 40-yard dash, totaled 1,317 yards on 216 carries for 19 touchdowns as a junior. He is also a very dangerous receiver coming out of the backfield with 448 yards on 22 receptions.
He picked LSU over Notre Dame, A&M, Auburn, Kentucky and Oklahoma. He is already fully qualified with an 18 on the ACT.
