Thurmon draws closer to decision

Chicago (Ill.) Mt. Carmel defensive lineman Kevin Thurmon continues to have one team leading his list and remains on course to make an early-season decision.
"The latest I want to make my decision is probably our third game," Thurmon said.

Mt. Carmel's first game is this weekend, so a decision appears imminent for the 6-foot-2, 275-pound defensive linemen. Although he holds seven offers, Thurmon said his focus is "mainly Wisconsin."
"I am going to go to one of the Wisconsin games when they have one at home," Thurmon said. "I do want to see a game (before deciding), but if I couldn't I still would commit."
The Badgers are on the road for their season opener so Thurmon will not be making a trip to Madison this weekend. He will be tuning their game in on television, however.
"I want to see Wisconsin-LSU," he said. "I basically will look at the d-line and offensive line to see what things I can work at and get better at and see the competition level in college."
Wisconsin extended an offer to Thurmon earlier this month after seeing him at their summer camp in June. His communication with the staff has been on-going since.
"Basically we are having regular talks," Thurmon said. "They are telling me to have a great season and making sure I keep my grades up."
The other schools that have offered Thurmon include Cincinnati, Purdue, Ball State, Bowling Green and Eastern Michigan. He continues to draw interest from new schools as well.
"Recently the people that have been trying to talk to me are Vanderbilt, South Florida, Tennessee and Oregon," Thurmon said. "I could think about Oregon a little bit, but other than that I am kind of set."
Thurmon is coming off a junior season in which he recorded seven sacks from his defensive end position.
