Thurman Geathers ready to create his own firework show July 4

There will be parties, cookouts and plenty of firework shows July 4, 2017, but Thurman Geathers plans to have his own show that night. He has decided this is the time he will announce his college choice and he will do so with much of his family present.

"My family is coming to my house for a cookout and all that, so on the night of July 4, I will be making my commitment with all of them there," said Geathers. "I knew I wanted to commit over the summer, so after talking it over with my parents, this seemed like the best time to do it. It will be great with family there."

Over the next 29 days, the 6-foot-3, 228 pound defensive end out of Kennesaw (Ga.) North Cobb will have many conversations with coaches and he will visit at least four schools.

Geathers will announce his decision July 4, but he could know as early as next week wheat school he is going to choose.

"I will be visiting Arkansas Wednesday, Louisville Thursday, Indiana Friday, then North Carolina State next Monday. I have visited a lot of schools and these visits are important, so I think things will start to become more clear to me after these visits.

"It will be my first time each of those schools except for North Carolina State, so I want to learn about the academics, I want to see what the location is like, I want to spend time with the coaching staff and just see how I fit in.

"I look for the same things on every visit, so this next week is very important."

The visit back to Raleigh (N.C.) will be the third time he visits the Wolfpack. They have done an excellent job recruiting Geathers. He said they show him "a lot of love" and when he visits, they "put a lot of time into their planning" for his arrival.

Geathers is not ready to name favorites or speak on what schools he is considering in his decision, but he is confident that he will be ready to make it with all his loved ones around him.

"I do not know now where I am going, but I will July 4," said Geathers. "I definitely will be ready. I am praying a lot about it, I am asking God to help me and I will be ready.

"I have always wanted to commit before my senior year so I could go into that being focused on my senior year, focused on my senior season and I will be ready."
