Kyle Phillips has been planning some important visits and those started last weekend when the three-star receiver took a trip to Utah.

The San Marcos, Calif., standout who remains committed to UCLA said he had an excellent time in Salt Lake City and it gave him a different perspective on the program as his recruitment continues.

“I really enjoyed the Utah visit,” Phillips said.

“It was great to get up there for another go-round and just see everything again. I have a pretty good relationship with the coaches so it was nice to see and speak with them again. Also, my good friend and former teammate Terrell Burgess plays there so it was amazing to spend some time with him.”

As for other visits, Phillips is looking to take a trip to Washington State this weekend and then head out to Michigan, which recently offered as well.

The three-star receiver has also been following the UCLA coaching situation closely after Jim Mora was recently fired. That was a disappointment but Phillips seems definitely excited about the future with new coach Chip Kelly.

The two are expected to talk soon.

“The hiring of Chip is pretty crazy,” Phillips said. “He almost seems like a celebrity to me. Everybody knows him and the success he’s had as a coach.

“We’ve tried to get on the phone but due to our schedules we haven’t yet. We plan to (Monday night) and just kind of talk about everything and where he sees me as a fit in his offense.”

Phillips finished the season with 59 catches for 1,318 yards and 10 touchdowns.
