Three-star WR Arrington makes his pick

After thinking about it for the past week, Chatham (Va.) Hargrave Military Academy wide receiver Dayon Arrington made his decision. The 6-foot-3, 200-pounder decided between East Carolina and Virginia.
"I committed to ECU today," he stated. "After the visit, I was thinking hard about both of them. Over the course of the week I was talking to my family and then ECU came up to Hargrave to talk to me. That made my decision easier because I saw how much love they have for me. After they left, I talked to my mother and father last night and then slept on it. Today, I decided I wanted to go there."

The three-star prospect gave the good news to Donnie Kirkpatrick.
"I called him up and he was happy," he said. "He told me I made his weekend. He then said all they have to worry about is getting my score right so I can get there as quick as possible."
What made Arrington select the Pirates over Virginia?
"I felt really comfortable there, and the players are cool," he said. "I even got to know Coach Holtz, his wife and kids on my visit. They showed me so much love. In addition, Coach Kirkpatrick visited Hargrave five or six times and called me every chance he got.
"They also told me that I'm their number one pick. They were actually putting other people on hold waiting for me. Also, I love the facilities and the fact they told me everything I need to do to get qualified."
East Carolina believes Arrington has a shot to compete immediately for playing time this fall.
"They said if I go there and work hard I can easily have a starting spot at the Z-spot," he said. "I have the opportunity to play as a freshman if I work hard and do what I've got to do. That was another factor in my decision."
Meanwhile, the prep prospect broke down his eligibility a bit.
"Since the 16 core classes came into effect I now need a 980 instead of a 920 on my SAT," he said. "If I stay the whole year which I'm doing and get an A on my transcript that'll drop it back down to 920. I'm really close right now and am working hard to get there."
