Three-star safety returns to action

D-I recruiters will be dusting off their spring recruiting notes because one player who was listed there finally played in his first game last Friday and he lived up to his springtime hype as one of the best safeties in Southern California. This player was talked about as the area’s second best safety prospect behind Los Alamitos, Calif., five-star recruit Randy Estes (6-2, 200, 4.4).
Going into the season it looked like safety Chet Sanders (6-1, 180, 4.4) from Carson, Calif., would be one of the most highly recruited players in the Los Angeles City Section.

Sanders had an injury and he kind of slipped under the recruiting radar screen for the time being that is. Forgotten by recruitneks, but not recruiters, Sanders in his first action last Friday evening was awesome.
Sanders racked up six solo tackles, two assists and picked off two passes. Not a bad day at the office especially since it was his day back.
If Sanders continues to play this way look for him to quickly be a player who is much talked about.
Getting Sanders back at this time is a good thing for Carson as they head into the heart of league play.
The Colts currently stand 3-3 and have had one of the toughest schedules in all of California high school football.
Carson has played and lost to the state’s number two (and the nation’s too) rated team Los Alamitos, they also played the best team in the Fresno area in Clovis (Calif.) West and the current number one team in the L.A. City section Venice.
As a junior, Sanders amassed 54 tackles, six pass deflections and had four picks.
In an earlier interview with former Carson assistant coach (now with Compton College) Derrick Collins said, “Chet is arguably the best safety prospect that Carson high has ever had. Based on all the tangibles of height, weight, speed and hitting ability. Chet is the complete package. He can run, hit and cover.”
“Chet catches on very quickly,” Collins said. “He is also a very good leader.”
Like Estes, Sanders is very rangy player who plays an outstanding centerfield. He possesses vision and he’s a lights out hitter.
Sanders reportedly has offers from Cal, Arizona, and San Jose State. He's getting a lot of interest from Washington, ASU and Oregon State. Definitely a Pac10 recruit.
