Three-star RB chooses Buffalo

With offers from the likes of Michigan State, Vanderbilt, Indiana, FIU, Memphis and others, Delray Beach (Fla.) American Heritage all-purpose back James Potts had plenty of options when it came to choosing schools but not long ago, Potts decided that Buffalo was the place for him.
"I committed a few weeks ago the day I left Buffalo on my official visit," Potts said. "I went on an official up there and I just fell in love with the place. I loved the place, loved the atmosphere and the coaches. I just liked it."

The decision was not an abrupt wave of emotion, Potts had been weighing over his options for sometime, specifically his other finalists of Rutgers, Memphis, Vanderbilt and Michigan State but in the end the biggest difference for Buffalo was the recruitment by its coaching staff.
"If anything it was just how the coaches were after me," he said when asked what set Buffalo apart. "They were always staying in contact with me and always staying in touch with me."
Another big factor that played a role in Buffalo's favor was the style of offense. Though Turner Gill's offense is very different from the offense employed by Potts' high school program, the departure is a welcomed one for the three-star back.
"I feel like Buffalo fits my style of offense as a runner and I feel like it was a good fit," he said. "It's a downhill, zone type offense which I'm very good at. I like the zone offense and I like going downhill. My offense down here is the spread so I'm going east-west a lot and I like getting north-south."
Potts has dealt with injuries this season and has missed some action but has been very effective when he has seen the field. Healthy once again off of a separated shoulder, he now has his eyes on a state championship.
"This Friday we play for first in our district," he said. "We've already made the playoffs. We're looking for states."
Potts has no plans to take any other recruiting visits and states that he is a firm commitment to Buffalo. He is the third three-star public commitment out of the southeast for the 2010 Buffalo recruiting class.
