Three-star QB pledges to Buffalo

Buffalo added a major commitment today in Paterson (N.J.) John F. Kennedy quarterback Chris Johnson. The 6-foot-2, 202-pounder selected the Bulls over offers from Rutgers, Temple, Bowling Green and others.
"He decided last week that he was going to Buffalo," his father, Ed Johnson said. "We went up there a month ago and they offered on his visit and told him that he could compete for the starting job against Drew Willy as a freshman and if he doesn't succeed he'd be a backup.

"That was the big thing for Chris because he could be a Division I quarterback as a true freshman. The way we look at it, the more he plays the more looks he'll get from the NFL. We didn't see the time or opportunity at other schools and he wants that."
Besides playing time, the three-star prospect liked a few other things about Buffalo.
"He saw the campus and really liked that, it's nice," he said. "I know he also likes coach Gill. He's a very talented former quarterback at Nebraska and I think he'll help better Chris. I know coach Gill likes him a lot."
This season, Johnson hasn't been able to drive John F. Kennedy over the hump.
"The team is 2-5 and most of the games he's lost have been by a point or a touchdown," he said. "This year he doesn't have the receivers he did last year, but he's still playing well and has thrown over 1,000 yards and run for over 400 yards."
