Three-star ponders Purdue visit

The recruiting season is coming down the homestretch but Converse (Texas) Judson safety Dominick Maddox may still have a little bit of work left to do. The three-star prospect led his team to the Texas State Championship game, playing his last high school football contest on Dec. 22. The deep playoff run cut short the recruiting season for Maddox and consequently he has some late plans.
Maddox committed to Texas State to play football just two weeks ago but because he was so late in getting his senior film to colleges, he is still in play with some bigger programs, one in particular.

"I'm committed to Texas State right now but I've got a visit to Purdue in the works," Maddox said. "Right now I'm just trying to work out the details. I'm trying to confirm it. Purdue's coaches have to find out if I'm the right guy."
Though Maddox doesn't have an offer from Purdue, he thinks that if he does get the visit scheduled, that could be a sign of good things to come.
"If I have a visit up there than obviously they want me," he said. "They wouldn't bring me up there unless they were really interested."
Maddox committed to Texas State because of the environment on campus and the opportunity to play early, but ever since Purdue's communication with Maddox he has maintained that he is willing to listen.
"[Purdue] came in about two or three weeks ago and he really came in hard and said they might need another safety," he said. "So I said I'm still looking. He's taking a trip down here ever week to see how I'm doing. I'm hoping something pops up but I'm fine if it doesn't. I'm happy with my position with Texas State."
Despite the late activity in his recruitment, Maddox is glad it's almost over. When asked how he's liked the recruiting process, the 5-foot-10 190-pounder didn't hesitate.
"It sucks," he said simply. "I'm happy it's almost over. I feel that I'm underrated a lot. I took our team all the way to the state championship game. That didn't help my chances of sending my tape out earlier."
Though he insists he's not bitter about his lack of exposure, Maddox is making sure that when he makes his final decision it's the right one. He says he may not even sign on National Signing Day.
