Three-star opens up recruitment

Khalil Pettway had been committed to SMU since mid-July but the Culver City, Calif., linebacker has decided to open things up just as his team prepares for a big matchup against Arroyo Grande this weekend.
"I just wanted to open up my recruitment again," Pettway said.

The three-star linebacker who has 79 tackles, two sacks and an interception so far this season didn't say whether SMU coach June Jones' job status was an issue in his de-commitment but that he wanted to look at other programs.
Jones is considered a leading candidate for the Arizona State job.
Pettway, a 6-foot-4, 205-pound prospect, said NC State, Washington State and Nevada would now be considered his three favorites but he's keeping all his options open and many schools are showing interest.
In total, Pettway lists offers from Arizona, NC State, SMU, Washington State and West Virginia. Many other programs have reached out as well.
"NC State, Washington State and Nevada would be in the top I guess but really all the other schools are in it as well," Pettway said.
Rivals.com rates Pettway as the No. 34 inside linebacker in the 2012 class. Culver City defeated Santa Monica last weekend in the playoffs and faces one-loss Arroyo Grande this weekend.
