Three-star OL makes his choice

Offensive guard Will Simmons has been sitting on one offer for a while and he felt like this was the right time to make his decision.
The 6-foot-5, 322-pound lineman from Ahoskie (N.C.) Hertford County spoke with a coach from East Carolina recently and said he wanted to be a Pirate.

"I've been thinking that's what I wanted to do for a month or so now, so today I talked to Coach Shankweiler. He was excited. I thought I wanted to be a Pirate so I just wanted to make it official."
The ECU coaches did not discuss their plans for Simmons at length, so he is not sure if he will be redshirting during his first year on campus. They did say they would use him wherever he was needed along the offensive line.
"I could have waited for other offers but I just wanted to go ahead and commit to ECU," he continued. "I liked the people and the staff. It's just unbelievable. It feels like home and it's like a family. I've been there a few times for a junior day, a camp and some games.
"I've met the (offensive) line, their quarterback and a defensive tackle from Florida. I've met a lot of them but I don't know them by name or anything."
Simmons said he is a solid commitment and does not plan on visiting any other schools. He will be attending as many games in Greenville as he is able to this fall.
While he is not accustomed to maxing out, Simmons said he believes he can bench press around 330 pounds. He is also an excellent student, carrying a 3.5 GPA.
