Three-star OL Luke Work fulfills dream, commits to Mississippi State

Memphis (Tenn.) Lausanne offensive lineman Luke Work is surrounded by a Mississippi State family and has dreamed about playing football for the Bulldogs since he was five-years old.

After impressing the new coaching staff at Thursday's Top Dawg Camp, the three-star got re-offered by the Bulldogs' staff and didn't hesitate to join the 2024 class.

"It feels great," Work said of his commitment. "I couldn't feel any better."

There was a time when Work didn't know if that dream would be fulfilled. He was originally offered by Mississippi State's old staff under Mike Leach, but with the unfortunate passing of Leach came the hiring of Zach Arnett and a number of changes to the staff, which included offensive line.

"I got offered by the old staff and Coach (Mason) Miller. We had a really good relationship until all that happened. But the new staff came in and they liked me, Coach (Darcel) McBath recruits my area and we've stayed in touch."

"Coach (Will) Friend and Coach (Mike) Schmidt reached out and wanted me to come to camp. I came to camp on Thursday and they told me I had an offer afterwards and I committed."

Work put up impressive numbers at camp and the Mississippi State coaches were intrigued with his athleticism as he worked out at both offensive tackle and guard.

"They said I move well and like how I play. They told me I'm coachable. I ran a 5.1 in the 40 at 6-foot-6, 275-pounds, so that was good."

Work had originally set up official visits with Tulane and Purdue later in June, but has officially shut things down and will start recruiting for the Bulldogs in the 2024 class.
