Northwestern's defensive backfield got a whole lot taller on Wednesday.

Three-star safety Garner Wallace, who at 6-foot-5 is surely one of the tallest safeties in the country, committed to the Wildcats to become the 12th member of the program's Class of 2021.

The Pickerington (Ohio) Central product announced his decision on Twitter.

Wallace picked Northwestern over 11 other offers, including Louisville, Cincinnati and nine MAC programs.

WildcatReport just posted a story about Wallace on Monday. He said he was impressed by Northwestern's academics and coaching staff.

"It's a really good school academically and the coaches seem real genuine," he said.

Wallace committed to Northwestern sight unseen, as the coronavirus pandemic and recruiting dead period eliminated any chance for a visit. The Wildcats offered him a scholarship on May 12.

A versatile athlete, Wallace received offers as both a safety and wide receiver. He also picked up one offer, from Western Carolina, for basketball.

Wallace also runs track for Pickerington Central and was a part of two state championship relay teams as a sophomore in 2019, the 4x400 and 4x800.

Wallace is the first safety in Northwestern's 2021 class, which is currently ranked 30th in the nation by Rivals.
